Step into a real-life fairytale at Argyll House, an enchanting countryside retreat inspired by the cottages of the English Cotswolds.

where old world meets new…

Argyll is a family home owned by sisters Deirdre, Beatrice and our dad, Robert. We fell in love with this corner of Connecticut in 2021, captivated by its New England charm, with village town greens and an abundance of nearby farms.

While Deirdre’s professional background is architecture, her heart has always been in interiors. She channeled this passion into lovingly designing every corner of the home, layering Robert’s lifetime collection of worldly objects, quirky art and timeless furniture with vintage treasures and pieces uncovered on local thrifting adventures. Beatrice’s bold style inspired more colors and patterns throughout the home, offering a distinct personality for each room.

The property is storied with history. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, this land was a working dairy farm with cows, pigs, horses, chickens. The cottage was a two-room schoolhouse that later became a home for the farmhand.

Our Cotswold-style home was built in 1932 by the Peckham family, who moved from New Jersey in search of a more rural life. Since then, generations have grown up here. There’ve been stories of children swinging into haystacks in the barn and riding a small horse named Breezy Boy. We’ve been told about theater performances on the lawn, choir practices in the great room, horseback riding through the trails, and family weddings in the backyard, ivy dripping down the house as a backdrop.

The centuries-old stone walls of Argyll continue to provide a cocoon of warmth. When you step out of your car onto the Argyll gravel driveway, you are transported to a faraway place…a different time…a different world.

Let the home and the grounds take care of you; it’s a true wonder in every season.

See you soon.
